Enabling works at Basin Square completed
Phase one of Chesterfield Waterside’s £75 million Basin Square development has taken a major step forward following the completion of enabling works.
Chesterfield-based earthworks and landscaping contractor, NT Killingley Ltd has carried out the ground works in order to prepare the entire site for construction. As part of the groundworks, an acoustic noise bund has been created alongside the A61, in preparation for the 300 family homes that are set to be built in The Park area at Chesterfield Waterside.
The site enabling works were able to be carried out thanks to a £2.7milliongrant from the Sheffield City Region Infrastructure Fund (SCRIF). Sir Nigel Knowles, Chair of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “Chesterfield Waterside, which will create hundreds of jobs and boost the economy, is an excellent example of our very robust approach to prioritising and selecting the highest standard of our programmes.”
“We are confident that every pound invested in Chesterfield Waterside will maximise economic growth, boost business, create more jobs and create better jobs.”
Phase one of the Basin Square site at Chesterfield Waterside will comprise: Apartments, multi-storey car park (442 spaces), offices and an 84-bed hotel. It is likely to create more than 300 new jobs and will create a brand-new landmark for the town as well as a sense of arrival for visitors arriving into the nearby mainline train station.
Peter Swallow, Managing Director of Bolsterstone Plc, the company leading the project said: “I am delighted that the work to prepare this area of the site are now complete after many, many months of planning and eight months of site works.”
“Completion of this work, coupled with the recent grant of planning permission for the heights and massing of the proposed buildings, means that we are now in a position to move forward and complete negotiations with investors and occupiers for the delivery of the first phase of Basin Square at Chesterfield Waterside.”
